After hosting three 5150 Triathlon, Century Tuna the Philippines’ best tuna (chos!) staged its first Ironman 70.3 event in the Triathlon Capital of the Philippines Subic Bay. “Century Tuna has strived fpr more than 30 years now to help Filipinos to live healthy lifestyles. The Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 Subic Bay Pilipinas is an addition to the growing number of Triathlon races in the Philippines and have brought in some famous athletes from all over the world like Luke Mackenzie, Caroline Steffen, and three-time Ironman World Champion and two-time 70.3 World Champion Craig “Crowie” Alexander who will be racing in the Philippines for the first time.
Last Sunday, over 800 local and foreign plus some 20 World Class Professional Participants showed up in the starting line located at the beautiful shore of Sands of Triboa ( sosyal diba?!). After the 1.9 KM Swim the athletes went straight to its 90KM Bike ride from the runway of Subic Bay Airport to Argonaut Highway, Rizal Highway and Subic – Tipo Expressway all the way to Subic – Clark – Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX). Triathletes made their U-Turn at the Florida Blanca Interchange and head back to Transition 2 located at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center (SBECC). Then from SBECC they went straight to a rolling 21-KM run course and cross the finish line.
Aside from the prestige of the First Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 Subic Bay Pilipinas, the said race also serves a qualifying race to the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Zell am See – Kaprun, Austria. Age-group qualifying slots are at stake with $15,000 prize purse for the event.
